Movements are often reduced to headlines.
But before the headlines, there are people. Decisions. Strategy. Discipline. Risk.
We Are Balogun: A Black Lives Matter Memoir is not commentary from the outside looking in. It is documentation from someone who helped build the work from the inside.
Yafeuh Balogun is a co-founder of the Huey P. Newton Gun Club and has been a visible and disciplined voice in modern Black community defense and political education. His organizing has centered on armed self-determination, legal literacy, historical continuity, and structured community empowerment rooted in the tradition of the Black Panther Party.
This memoir traces that journey.
From the development of modern community defense formations to the philosophy behind organized armed self-protection, We Are Balogun captures the lived experiences behind the headlines and the narratives that shaped a generation of activists.
This book is important because history should not be written solely by observers. It must also be written by participants.
Inside this memoir, readers will encounter:
• The evolution of contemporary Black community defense
• The philosophy behind disciplined armed organizing
• The internal challenges and public misunderstandings of the movement
• The long historical thread connecting past and present resistance work
For those who understand the legacy of Huey P. Newton and the importance of community sovereignty, this is not simply a book. It is a record.
If you believe in self-determination, organized defense, and principled leadership, this belongs in your library.
